MOCCASIN "STRAIGHT"

Lightly raced three year old filly MOCCASIN BEND showed what the benefit of a bit of experience is, by waltzing away for her second win at Belmont on Saturday. The filly was having only her fourth start and was coming off the back of two very good seconds and a slashing win at the midweeks at her previous start. The way she has been winning suggests that she may have a very bright future ahead of her.

MOCCASIN BEND has been inclined to over race at her first couple of starts and do things wrong when grabbed hold of in running causing her to run about a bit. The way she has conducted herself at her past two outings shows she has been learning plenty with each race day experience. There has been some thought about taking the filly east for a crack at the Caulfield Guineas however this is highly unlikely.

The filly is Westspeed qualified which makes her an ideal horse to be racing here in the west. If she was to head east it would only be for the one run but as I said this is highly unlikely. The filly will more than likely be eased soon and set for the better three year old races over the next few months to be run here at home.

HOOF NOTE:
There was a story in the paper over the weekend which stated "It was rumoured this week that Melbourne trainer Lee Freedman had offered a big sum of money for Moccasin Bend and connections have put a million dollar price on her." It really is a shame that our journos aren't made to put truth and facts into the stories they write but then I guess they wouldn't have much to write about would they?
