GUYNO ON TARGET

W.A.Derby winner GUYNO had his first taste of racing on the east coast when he ran in a 1700m handicap at Flemington on Saturday. Carrying 58.5kg, GUYNO settled back in the second half of the field and I was very very happy with the way he made ground in the straight. The run was full of merit considering he was stepping out second up after having had only one 1300m race back in Perth three weeks earlier.

GUYNO will have his next run in a 2000m handicap at Caulfield on September 20th, a race which should give us a good guide to how he will measure up to the big league. I am very happy with how he has come back and I am looking forward to the next couple of months with him.

All going well he may have one more start after that before he runs in a 2400m Gr2 race at Caulfield in mid October. This should tell us if he will be competitive in the big Cup races or if we need to lower our sights a little. At this early stage I am confident that he will make the grade.

AMELIA'S REASON who also raced at Flemington on the same day showed that he may not be quite up to the group company on the east coast however I am happy with how he is racing and I am confident that we will find the right race for him over the next few weeks.
