GUYNO TO RUN IN COX

My tough little stayer GUYNO appears to be happy and bright since returning to my stables and everything appears to be on target for him to make a return to the race track in Wednesday weeks C.B. COX STAKES.

GUYNO spent nearly two weeks being trained out of a paddock while enjoying a bit of country air and relaxing lifestyle after his gallant Melbourne Cup run and the thought has always been there to have a tilt at the 2009 Perth Cup. I have wanted to see how he freshened up and to gauge his mental and physical condition before making any set plans with him. The horse came home from Melbourne looking as though he had just started a campaign however it is another matter completely trying to assess their state of mind after such a gruelling event.

I would have to say that to get most horses back up would be near on impossible however this guy has the constitution of an alley cat and such a relaxed nature that it is difficult to tell when he is asleep and when he is awake. At this stage we will run in the Cox Stakes and then reassess after that race. He would need to show me that he wants to be out there and then pull up sound for us to warrant running him in the Perth Cup. If not he can go to the paddock and then have another crack in the Autumn or early Winter.

The weights for the Perth Cup were released today and it was nice to see that he has been handicapped on form and not on the hype of past glories. The reality is that this horse has not won a race since early October 2007 when he won a six horse race in the York Handicap at Ascot. He has remained consistent ever since but has failed to bring home the bacon. I am sure that he will tell us exactly what and how much he is ready to do over the next few weeks.
