NEW BABIES NEARLY READY TO GO.
In recent weeks we have taken a number of either unraced or lightly raced two year olds to trials and I have been very impressed with what I have seen them produce. While some have had one start earlier in the season and may have pulled up a bit shin sore or were not ready to do much more, others have gone to the trials for the first time and have been showing plenty of potential.
A classic example of this was our first starter at Ascot on Wednesday called EXCLUSIVE HONOUR. This colt had one trial earlier in the season before having a spell and was having his first start after an impressive trial performance at Lark Hill a few weeks ago. Obviously the trial did not impress anyone else as the colt stepped out at 20/1 on Wednesday even after substantial stable support. He failed by just on a length to run down the odds on favourite and will derive plenty of benefit from the run.
Last Monday we took a few babies to the Belmont trials and I was very happy with what I saw. LITTLE LARRIKIN was an impressive winner of a 1000m trial in good time and he is a young horse to follow. PATRIOTIC CAUSE won her short trial in good style while DUE PROCESS showed that she should not be a maiden for long with her strong finish in winning her short trial. Another impressive trial winner on the day was CHARCOAL ROSE and as the name suggests, this pitch black leggy filly will not take long to impress at the race track. Another horse to mark down in the black book for later in the year is a late developing gelding called SPEED DEMON. This horse is a half brother to my useful galloper SMOKIN DRAGON and I like the way he finished off his trial.
On Monday we take another handful of young horses to the trials and there are a few who promise to make the grade. FLEIS, BABY GLAM and SWING are all unraced and trialling over the short trip, while CHARCOAL ROSE and SAXON ARMADA are stepping out over the 1000m journey. Later in the day we have two unraced 3yo's trialling named RICHITRIM LASS and OUT SPOKEN LADY. The jury is still out on these two however we should have a better idea after the trial on Monday.
Tomorrow we take three runners to the races and all are capable of finishing in the money.
