ALMOHAD AGAIN
Up and coming young stayer ALMOHAD again showed on Saturday just what he is capable of doing. The lightly raced four year old son of Rock of Gibraltar raced in a far more forward position on Saturday after jockey Jason Whiting summed up the pace or lack of pace in the early stages of the race.
We have been more accustomed to ALMOHAD settling further back in the field however with a bit of freshness on his side due to a three week break from racing, the horse was able to position up a lot closer and still hit the line strongly. I made mention after his last win that the horse was capable of winning his way through to open company if he can keep it all together mentally. A bit of extra body maturity wouldn't go astray either!
ALMOHAD will be kept racing in restricted company for at least one more start and we will then have a good look at where he is at and how much more he is ready to do this campaign. The connections have allowed me to be as patient as possible with the horse and there is no doubt that the horse has derived a lot of benefit from the extra time he has been given.
I will assess the horse over the next week or so and decide whether to have another three week gap or maybe step out again in two weeks. Either way we will let the horse tell us when and where he is ready to go again.
