BASKERVILLE STREET IN IMPRESSIVE RETURN

Four year old mare BASKERVILLE STREET produced what was probably her best performance to date when winning in great style at Belmont last Saturday. The mare was racing first up after a lengthy break and she was ridden a masterful race by leading jockey Paul Harvey.

From her good barrier, Paul was able to have the mare handy throughout and when the runs presented themselves in the straight, the mare did the rest. BASKERVILLE STREET had a somewhat un-nerving start to her career when she was racing in a forward position at Ascot at her first start when she had her legs taken out from underneath her by another runner thereby dislodging her rider and falling herself in the process. The mare took a while to regain her confidence and show her true ability.

Last preparation we brought her back in the hope that she would measure up to the black type mares races over the carnival however a series of bad barriers and a few feet issues meant she was never able to produce her best. With some added maturity and a bit of luck with the barriers on Saturday, she was able to win in a manner which suggests that there could be more wins in store for her.
