AND EVEN MORE SILLY FEEL GOOD PUPPY HUMOUR

MORE PUPPY HUMOUR

PUPPY HUMOUR FROM MY DAUGHTER

A WHILE BETWEEN DRINKS

It may have been a while since he last saluted the judge however consistent galloper STRIKEN shows that he has not lost his memory about where the winning post is with a great win at Ascot recently. Steve Parnham filled in for the injured Jarrad Noske who was filling in for Jason Whiting to take advantage of his claim.

Part owner Shirley Piper leads STRIKEN back to scale with great delight.

WARM RECEPTION FOR COLD COMMAND

Lightly raced 5yo gelding COLD COMMAND shows his winning style first up at Pinjarra recently with Jason Whiting on board.

It would have to be a toss up as to who is the least likely to miss a photo oportunity, my son Dion or his new "best mate," Tony Abbott. Either way they both seemed to get a kick out of the win of COLD COMMAND.

RECENT WINNERS

CANNY TOUCH SHOWS BY HIS WIN AT BUNBURY THAT THERE MAY BE MORE WINS IN STORE. GREAT EFFORT WITH THE BLINKERS ON FIRST TIME AND STEVE PARNHAM UP.

NOT A BAD WAY TO START HER CAREER. FRIDAY'S GIRL WINS AT HER FIRST RACE DAY APPEARANCE AND IS A FILLY WORTH FOLLOWING.

GOOD DAY AT BUNBURY

We went to Bunbury yesterday with three runners which were all some chance of finishing in the money. We left with a winner, a second and one unlucky unplaced starter. If I could have that record every time I went to the races I would be more than satisfied.

CANNY TOUCH broke through for an overdue win in the second race, a maiden over 1200m. While only being lightly raced, he has had a few chances in the past so it was good to see him get over the line yesterday. In race two we started newcomer PACK YOUR BAGS, a filly by O'reilly. The filly ran a mighty race to be beaten by the odds on pop and I am confident that she will improve heaps from the run.

KLASY SPY has shown city class potential in the past and even though he has run some nice races in town he seems to find a lot of bad luck in his races brought about mainly by his own racing manners. We will give him a few weeks on the easy list before we take him back to the races. I am sure that once he finds the winning post, he is capable of putting a few wins together.

BUMPER DAY FOR "TEAM LUCIANI"

Tomorrow's Ascot meeting will see our stable represented by the biggest team of runners that I can recall for many many a year. While it may not be the biggest team we have had in on the one day (I seem to recall having 12 runners one day) I don't recall ever having a day where we have had a runner in every race!It will be a case of all hands on deck tomorrow and no time for socializing until the end of the day.

We start the day off in race one with consistent performer ESTIARTE stepping up to 1400m for the first time this campaign. We then have MASTER SECRET and FRIDAYS GIRL in the second race followed by BLACK HABIT in the third. MOCCASIN BEND makes a return to the track in race four, REGOL STREET in race five and CAMPOBELLO steps up to 2200m in race six the Melvista Stakes. We then come home with AMELIAS DANCER in race seven and old war horse STRIKEN in the last. Whilst all horses are capable of figuring in the placings, I will be very happy if we can win one race and work upwards from there.

While I may not be confident of one particular runner tomorrow, I am confident that the staff and I will be looking for somewhere to lay down come the last race tomorrow.

THREE RUNNERS FOR BUNBURY

We head to Bunbury today with three runners and on face value all three are capable of earning stake money. KLASY SPY and CANNY TOUCH have been placed in similar or stronger fields in the past and PACK YOUR BAGS is coming off the back of a very impressive trial win earlier this week.

We would not normally take a horse to the races so soon after a trial however we needed to trial to qualify for blinkers and we wanted to run in the hope of earning enough money to warrant a race start in next weeks Karrakatta Plate.

I have been impressed with what this filly has shown us so far however I do feel that she will be better placed next season after she has a good spell. This is her first preparation and she has done more than I expected her to at such an early stage.

KLASY SPY and CANNY TOUCH have both raced in better company in the past and if they race to the best they can I feel they are both capable of shaking the life out of their respective races.

FRIDAYS GIRL NO SLOUCH

The first up win of FRIDAYS GIRL at Pinjarra last week suggests she has a bright future ahead of her. The flashy looking filly by FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND, had to overcome a number of setbacks in the weeks leading up to her first up win which added weight to my opinion of her being a tough racehorse.

FRIDAYS GIRL raced with 16 stitches in her forehead as a result of taking fright the night of the big storm which hit Perth a week or so prior to her run. Along the way the filly also had an abscess burst from her heal as well as suffering from a split frog on her other front foot. Thankfully the filly had a trouble free run in the week leading up to her debut race at Pinjarra where she settled down towards the back of the field before making late ground and winning with something in reserve.

I am now in the awkward position of having to decide whether or not to run the filly again in order to increase her stake money or to hope we gain a start in the Karakatta Plate with the stake money we have so far. It is hard to work out where we are as far as gaining a start with so many interstate horses nominated but most being doubtful starters.

I don't really want to run the filly this weekend and then butter her up again the following week into the big two year old race. We will have to have a good think about things before we make a decision. If the filly does gain a start in the Karakatta Plate I am confident that she wont disgrace herself. If she doesn't gain a start I am keen for her to get into the Sires Produce Stakes as I believe that race will suit her even more.

AMELIAS DANCER MAKES WINNING DEBUT

It is not often that a first up winner impresses me as much as the win of AMELIAS DANCER at Pinjarra a couple of weeks ago. The horse has always been somewhat of a dunce throughout his two or three preparations so far, however he has shown when he puts his mind on the job that he does possess some ability. From the day I broke the horse in at Amelia Park some time ago I have to say that a first up win was not what I was expecting.

AMELIAS DANCER showed that his first up win was no fluke by running an equally good second up run at Ascot last Saturday and when this horse matures and puts it all together I am confident he will become a bit better than average. He is a big leggy horse who stands at a shade under 17 hands but still lacks some real body strength.

AMELIAS DANCER will step out over 1600m at Ascot this weekend where he will take on older horses. This may seem like a big step up in class however I am sure that this horse will run better races in better company where races are run at a more genuine tempo. We will assess his performance this weekend before we decide how much more we do with him for this campaign.

POST BUNBURY CUP

It has once again been very slack of me to not keep this site up to date but I honestly have been busier than a one armed brick layer in Beirut! There has been plenty to keep me busy over the past few weeks and hopefully I can get back to some consistency with my postings.

The SW Cups have all been run now and although I gave myself a big chance of tasting some success in the big races, things didn't work out that way for one reason or another. At the end of January I figured I would be a big chance in the Cups with both GUYNO and ALMOHAD heading that way as well as having MOCCASIN BEND heading towards the Sprint races.

MOCCASIN BEND had some feet issues leading into the Pinjarra sprint and ALMOHAD showed that he had well and truly had enough by the time the Bunbury Cup came around. GUYNO once again showed that he is not capable of winning open class races in this state with the top weight that he keeps being allocated. I know that he has earned the top weight however the fact that he is so honest and consistent means that he takes a long time to come back down in the weights. The truth is that GUYNO has only won one race since his first up win as a four year old back in 2007!!!

Both GUYNO and ALMOHAD are now having a well earned rest at Amelia Park and both look happy and relaxed. Both horses will stay in the paddock for a while before we decide which way to head with them.

MOCCASIN BEND has taken a while to overcome the hoof soreness however she appears to be making good progress and should be back to the track soon.
