ALL THE WAY WITH BLESCAY.

This is certainly how you like to see your horse win, especially when you have something on them at 25/1. Jason whitting sits up for the photo after an all the way win.

THEY JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER.

Try these couple sent in by a very dear friend. ( I had to say that about her or she would slap me!) Just proves men will always be men and Aussies will always be Aussies.

THE BLONDE FROM DUBLIN !!!

An attractive blonde from Dublin arrived and bet $20,000 on a single
>roll of the dice.
>
>She said, "I hope you don't mind, but I feel much luckier when I'm
>completely naked". With that she stripped, rolled the dice and yelled,
>"Come on baby, Mama needs new clothes!"
>
>As the dice came to a stop, she jumped up and down and squealed... "YES!
>YES! YES! I'VE WON, I'VE WON!" She then hugged each of the dealers,
>picked up her winnings and clothes and quickly departed.
>
>The dealers stared at each other dumbfounded.
>
>Finally, one of them says, "What did she roll?" The other answers, "I
>don't know - I thought you were watching."
>
>MORAL OF THE STORY:
>
>Not all Irish are stupid and not all blondes are dumb, but all men are
>men.

TRAVELLING ON THE TRAIN !!!!

>Sitting together on a train, travelling through the Swiss Alps, were a
>Kiwi guy, an Australian bloke, a little old Greek lady, and a young
>blonde Swiss girl with large b.r.e.a.s.t.s.
>
>The Train goes into a dark tunnel and a few seconds later there is the
>sound of a loud slap.
>
>When the train emerges from the tunnel, the Kiwi has a bright red hand
>print on his cheek.
>
>No one speaks.
>
>The old lady thinks:
>The Kiwi guy must have groped the blonde in the dark, and she slapped his
>cheek.
>
>The blonde Swiss girl thinks:
>That Kiwi guy must have tried to grope me in the dark, but missed and
>fondled the old lady and she slapped his cheek.
>
>The Kiwi thinks:
>The Australian bloke must have groped the blonde in the dark. She tried
>to slap him but missed and got me instead.
>
>The Australian thinks:
>I can't wait for another tunnel, just so I can smack the Kiwi again.!!!!!!!!!

NOW HERE IS ONE TO KEEP YOU AMUSED FOR A WHILE!!!!

I get all sorts of challenges but this one is certainly one of the more addictive and entertaining. I don't have any three or four year old children but I am sure that if I did they would be able to handle this one with ease. I am told that if you can survive for 18 seconds you are very very smart. At the time of loading I have managed 16.6 seconds. You need to last two minutes to get a job flying fighter jets. You only need to survive 5 seconds to get a job as a horse trainer! I will keep you updated as I improve. DON'T BLAME ME IF YOU BECOME ADDICTED!!!! NEWS FLASH.... 18.125 SECONDS

BLESCAY ALL THE WAY

Lightly raced two year old filly BLESCAY finally started to reproduce in a race what she has promised to do for so long. The filly has always been a brilliant trackworker however her race performances have left a lot to be desired. In her defence the filly may have been a bit imature in her first preparation and has improved with the benefit of her first up run.Her work of late has been top class and it was very frustrating to see her still a first emergency today after final acceptances. Luck was on her side and she gained a start with one scratching late this morning.

Jason Whiting was not given any specific instructions before the race as the track was wet and we were still not sure of the best way to ride the filly. It didn't take the "FISH" long to sum up the race nor what part of the track he wanted to be on when he sent the filly straight to the front and never left the fence throughought. The filly has pulled up well and hopefully she can train on from here.

The filly is the second two year old winner by REAL JESTER that I have had this year and I have nothing but praise for the now LINDSAY PARK based stallion.

THREE RUNNERS FOR BELMONT TODAY

We head out to a rain soaked Belmont today with three runners for the afternoon. In the first race we have a first upper NAMBEELA who has pleased at his two trials so far. He gives every indication that he will make into a nice horse with a bit of experience and I expect him to be handy for most of the way today. He will improve with the run.

In race two we have a very frustrating filly in BLESCAY. This filly promises the world on the track but so far has failed to deliver anything exciting. When she learns to put it all together she will also make it as a city class race horse.

The fifth race sees LEITMOTIF step out second up for us. The filly ran a nice race first up and has improved with the hit out. My biggest concern is that when she raced on a wet track in the east, she failed dismally. I am hoping it is not to wet.

Happy punting.

THE PROBLEM WITH WEB PAGES!!!

For years now I have spent time telling anyone who bothers to read this site, that as a horse trainer, I make a very poor journalist. I make an even worse I.T. person as far as keeping my site updated. The problem is that as soon as I introduce another person to the site or they hear about it and check it out, I get into trouble for not refreshing it regularly. Fair dinkum a poor battling horse trainer can't win! So to my most recent critic (and he knows who he is) I will try even harder to keep things fresh. Just to prove that I am listening I have uploaded the very funny yarn he sent me about ROOSTERS! Check it out.

BUTCH THE ROOSTER
John the farmer was in the fertilized egg business. He had several
Hundred young layers (hens), called "pullets", and ten roosters, whose
Job it was to fertilize the eggs (for you city folks).

The farmer kept records and any rooster that didn't perform went into
the soup pot and was replaced. That took an awful lot of his time, so he
bought a set of tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each
bell had a different tone so John could tell from a distance, which rooster
was performing.

Now he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report simply by
listening to the bells. The farmer's favorite rooster was old Butch, and a very fine specimen
he was, too.

But on this particular morning John noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! John went to investigate.

The other roosters were chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing. The pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

But to Farmer John's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He would sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk
on to the next one.

John was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the County Fair and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.
The result...The judges not only awarded old Butch the No Bell Piece Prize but they also awarded him the Pulletsurprise as well.

Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making: Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most highly coveted
awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention.

TWO FOR BELMONT TODAY

It will be a case of getting in and out early at Belmont today with only two runners. We start the day off with LA COUREUSE in the first race, a two year old handicap over 1200m. The way this filly ran on last start would suggest that she is going to take some beating today. Her wide barrier is the biggest hurdle for her.

In race two I have LEITMOTIF starting first up. This filly was originally trained in South Australia by David Hayes however she has failed to live up to expectations and has found her way over to the west. I have had a lot of success with the rest of her family and I hope we can turn her form around. The filly has a tendency to go fairly hard in her work so hopefully we have settled her down enough to help her run a nice race. The rest of her family have been fairly casuall animals who have been able to really finish off their races.

Happy punting.

TRY SOME OF THESE TO LIGHTEN UP YOUR DAY.

1. Those who live by the sword.... get shot by those who don't.
2. A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.
3. I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.
4. Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

OR THESE

If a man is standing in the middle of the forest speaking and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?

Everyone is gifted. Some just take longer to open the package.

A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory!

If a man sets out to fail and succeeds, what has he done?

RATINGS BASED HANDICAPPING AND PROGRAMMING

Here we are only three weeks away from the first day of RATINGS BASED PROGRAMMING and HANDICAPPING and I have yet to meet anyone who fully understands or agrees with the new system.

Now I am not here to knock or support the new system, however surely if we are changing something as important as the handicapping system or the types of races that we can run in, we should be changing for the better. Surely we should be putting in place a system which is easier to understand than the current system, more nationally and internationally uniform and a system which improves our racing even further.

I think I have a fairly good grasp on the way the new system is designed to work and I don't have a problem with R.B.H. or R.B.P. What I have a problem with is the many anomallies that exist within the new system. Here we are with the perfect opportunity to create a very very good system, however the apparent rush to implement the system, means that there are still a lot of bugs to be ironed out which need not be there.

There is a meeting organised with the chief handicapper from R.W.W.A. on Friday. Hopefully the industry participants are given the chance to voice thier concerns to the powers that be and any problems are attended to quickly. I have my doubts!

SORRY. I'VE BEEN BUSY

This is my first news update since the weekend of the BELMONT OAKS and for no other reason other than having been flat out and not much to say. That's not like me I can hear you say.

We have had a fairly quiet time the past few weeks with only a few starters and most of them being youngsters and first uppers. We did produce one on the weekend which nearly caused a boil over but not really a surprise. HIFALUTIN, a two year old filly by Pentre Celebre out of Gambei had her first start at Belmont and could not have been more impressive when finishing strongly to run second to the unbeaten Megatic.

The filly is the first foal of Gambei, a filly I won the Magic Millions with a few years ago. I remember seeing her at COOLMORE Stud when she was only a few months old. Being a first foal, she was so tiny and frail that we didn't give her much chance of becoming a race horse. To look at her now you would hardly think of her as a small first foal in fact she is quite an attractive individual.

The filly will have another two or three runs before we put her away till the end of Spring. The filly will then be prepared for the good fillies races at Ascot in the Autumn.
We live in hope!

THIS IS ALSO WHAT RACING IS ALL ABOUT.

Yesterday I went to the races with three runners. I expected them all to run well however I did think that CELT CODE was my best chance in the Belmont Oaks. Even though she was double figure odds I felt she was the one to beat. CELT CODE ran a disappointing race however we have since discovered the reasons why but that is all another story.

Sitting in the trainers stand before the race I couldn't believe the number of people in there. Most of them were young (anyone younger than me qualifies) and most I had never seen at the races before. In fact most were standing up blocking my view from my usual seat and just before I was about to ask them if they could sit down they all did so. I happened to be sitting alongside another trainer who rarely has a city runner and I happened to mention to him that I thought his filly would be very hard to beat if she repeated her last effort. He agreed! I have known of the trainer for many years but only over the past five years or so have we had much to do with each other.

Most mornings at the track we usually have a 20 minute chat mostly about his beloved DOCKERS and my champion EAGLES! The general ribbing and banter is all good fun and at last count, the cartons of Carlton Mids that he has had to produce over the past few seasons, has me a long way in front. He never fails to congratulate me whenever I have won a race whether it be Northam or Ascot. This trainer has trained plenty of winners before but I am not sure how many City winners he has produced. When his filly hit the front halfway down the straight before going on to win the Belmont Oaks, you would have thought we had just witnessed the running of the Melbourne Cup.

The way TED "PUNTER" ROBINSON punched the air after the race, needed to be seen to be believed. The smile on his face suggested there was a lot more to this result than just winning a race. The emotion shared by all those "youngsters" standing up and hugging one another down in those front rows was priceless. This may have been "just the $60,000 Belmont Oaks" to many people but to this ecstatic group of people it was almost like the celebration of life itself.

In all my years of winning races both big and small I have rarely witnessed such emotion and enjoyment. Its a shame there wasn't a movie camera on hand to capture the moment. There would be no need for any race clubs, to ever hire in actors to make those glossy, expensive, yet false film clips we see on telly when they try to promote the Summer or Autumn carnivals. This was real.

I am sure that we all lose sight of exactly what racing is all about sometimes. It is not just about T.A.B. turnover. It's not just about winning strike rates. It's not always about Northerly, Miss Andretti or William Pike. (No disrespect to any of them intended) It's not even about Ratings Based Handicapping or Programming. I am fairly sure TED wouldn't know or care what his filly was rated prior to or after her win. Sometimes it really is just about a job well done. It's days like this that you realise that there are still some true GENTLEMEN in the industry who just love to win a race!

It was a pleasure to give you a lift home after the races TED. I hope you win many more with your filly. I also look forward to taking another carton off you after the next "DERBY".
